2 PLAC Anthony negotiated one of the most imortant treaties with Cherokees, Chickasaws, and Choctaws. This was his last public service.
Anthony Haden came to America Abt. 1720 from England, was councillorof State of North Carolina for Abt. 10 years. Moved to Virginia and isdocumented as being of King William County, Virginia in a deed dated1742, died in 1780. Anthony was a Lieutenant in the battle of PointPleasant, alone with two of his sons and two grandsons. Just before hisdeath in 1780, James negotiated one of the most important treaties withthe Cherokees, Chickasaws Indians.
Anthony Haden of England married Lady Margaret Douglas of Scotland, ofthe Black Douglas Family. Anthony and Margaret had the followingchildren: John, Joesph, Rachel, Thomas, Anthony Jr.
Anthony and Margaret first went to Bremuda in 1715 and then emigrated toAmerica about 1720, settling in North carolina then moved to Virginia.
( Nov. 1742 Anthony Haden of King William County bought 400 acres inGoochland, part in Hanover, from the Watson family, Anthony and his wifeMargaret sold it back to Watson in Nov. 1745.
Dec. 1743 Anthony bought 200 acres on the branch of Bryd Creek. Gift tohis son John in May 1747.
June 1744 Anthony bought 200 acres from Thomas Stone on the Great BrydCreek. I believe this was his home plantation; he will now be" ofGoochland County". April 1749 he added 50 acres bought from Edward Rice.By May 1769, Edward Rice's will reveals that Zachariah Haden is living onthis land. In Oct., 1774 Zachariah and his wife Elizabeth sold 250 acres,both properties devised(willed) to Zachariah by his father Anthony Haden,to neighbor John Hopkins.
Nov.1745 Anthony Haden of Goochland County bought 200 acres from RichardBrown, also on Bryd Creek. Gift to son Joseph in Jan. of 1756, Anthonynow of St. Paul Parish, Hanover County.
May 1748 Anthony of Goochland bought 141 acres on Bryd Creek from HenryNash. In Sept. 1749, he added to his property, buying 55 acres fromFrancis Thurston who had previously purchased the 55 acres from HenryNash. Nov. 1755, both properties were a gift to his son William Haden;Anthony now living in Hanover County.
After moving to Hanover County sometime between Sept. 1749 and Nov. 1755,Anthony also made a deed gifts of slaves to daughters, Rachel Johnson andRuth Ferris and to Ann Rea his granddaughter and daughter of ElizabethRea.
Anthony may not have been happy with his daughter Elizabeth marriage, soin this particular case, he gave the slave to his granddaughter with someof the income from the slave to go to his daughter- a way to keep herhusband from having possession of the slave as he would have had if theslave was given directly to Elizabeth.) information come from Kay Haden

1 NOTE John lived on the land left to him by his father, HawtreePlantation. It was his home until later years when he lost theland and house because of financial troubles. He served in theWar of 1812 as a Captain, but was soon promoted and served untilthe close of the War as Colonel of the Second North CarolinaDragoons. His regiment was stationed during the entire war inNorfolk, Va. and was a part of the Regiment commanded by Col.Duncan McDonald. Upon returning to Warren County, he was madeGeneral of Militia, but preferred the title of Colonel as he hadwon that in actual warfare in the face of the enemy.
His home was still standing in 1967 when it was completelydestroyed by fire. This house was pointed out in "The County ofWarren, N.C., 1587-1817" by Manley Wade Wellman as "Place No. 1,site of John Laughter Home, a Hatter during Revolutionary War."
